The blonde Chinese princess

What’s new in EVS’ working this ending of summer? Many interesting and funny things! For example, we discovered that we have a Chinese princess among our EVS or we did zip line!

In the beginning of September, we received a Chinese delegation in Antwerp. They were over 30 young Chinese volunteers that stayed in Brussels for one week to attend the EU-China Volunteer Bridge. It was a huge event included in the 2011 EU-China Year of Youth and that took place within the II Youth Convention on Volunteering organized by the European Youth Forum.

As the perfect hosts, we received them in our office and we showed them a presentation about our activities in European Youth Capital. The EVS responsible for doing it was Paola, together with our boss, Axel. Don’t tell anybody, but Paola really did a good job, (almost) better than Axel!

Later, we had lunch all together in a real Chinese restaurant, in Antwerp China town. We ate…., well, I don’t know! But it was all lekker!

Diamonds as souvenirs

After lunch, we showed them the main monuments in the city and we even found some time to go shopping and buying some souvenirs from Antwerp, like beers, some chocolate but also diamonds and Louis Vuitton clothes!

Finally, at the end of the day, they didn’t come back to Brussels without giving us some presents from China. And that was the funniest moment of the day, because they discover us that there was a Chinese princess hidden among us! Although our blonde Eszter had cheat on us telling that she is from Hungary, our guests discovered quickly that she is actually an Oriental princess! That’s why they gave her the coolest present, a beautiful hat she wears now proudly.

We had a great time and we enjoyed very much learning about Chinese culture, a really interesting country to discover.

Learning and jumping

But it wasn’t the only thing we did this month. For example, we also attended one conference about peer education where we learnt a lot together with 30 people from 16 different countries; and we enjoyed Antwerp Street kicks, one urban and extreme sports activity. Especially the two crazy EVS that dared to try the zip line jumping from a 50 meter crane!
